Nosgoth, a multiplayer only Legacy of Kain, announced

This free to play multiplayer game by Square Enix and Psyonix has just been announced with a trailer that contains pre-alpha gameplay.

Square Enix has announced Nosgoth today with a trailer that shows one more game that has strayed very far from its roots. It is based in the Legacy of Kain universe, which was a series of story based singleplayer games for PS & PS2, but it is entirely multiplayer based and it has Vampires and Humans squaring off in violent combat. Today they have announced Nosgoth with a  real trailer and some information.

Psyonix is the developer of Nosgoth and they have helped work on many large games, like two Unreal Tournaments, Mass Effect 3, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown among others, and in regards to Nosgoth they are focused on, “developing a balanced ranged vs. melee experience that’s straightforward for newcomers while providing plenty of depth for veterans to master.” The Vampires will be largely melee based, while the Humans deal in ranged weaponry and gadgets to offset the brute force of their enemies.

There are no mention of modes, like if this is an objective based multiplayer game with dynamic modes that tie into some meta game, but the trailer seems to suggest something like that. On September 30th Psyonix will be doing a Q&A over on the Nosgoth Twitch.tv channel to answer questions about the game and to explain why they think multiplayer is a good fit for this universe. You can follow the developer over on the Nosgoth blog and they are also accepting alpha/beta applications over on the main website.

After seeing so many teaser releases I’m finding myself far too thankful that Square Enix decided to make a trailer that actually shows gameplay and explains some dynamics of the game. Check out that trailer below and head on back to BeefJack later for some more news on this F2P competitive PC game.
