A mobile Riddick – Riddick: The Merc Files announced and released

A week ago two Riddick games were revealed by Vin Diesel and now one of them, the mobile one, has been officially announced by Gaming Corps with details, including a surprisingly close release date.

Last week BeefJack’s James Haresign reported on two new Riddick games that Vin Diesel revealed in an interview with Screencrush and today we now know a lot more about the mobile game that he mentioned. It is called Riddick: The Merc Files and it is going to be touch based stealth action game that lets you play as Riddick as you eliminate dozens of mercenaries.

This iOS game will give players control of Riddick as he tries to escape the grasp of mercenaries across several locations in the Riddick universe. With Riddick players will have the option to be entirely stealthy, by being able to silently eliminate enemies and move their bodies to avoid detection, or they will be able to take an aggressive shooter centric approach, or they can of course mix the two play styles. It is hard to tell what that all is going to be like, but we can see it shortly in action in the teaser trailer below.

I’m a big fan of the other two Riddick games, Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena, but I’m a bit nervous about this one. However, this is being made partially by Vin Diesel’s Tigon Studios, which has members of the original Starbreeze Studio that made those two Riddick Games and they seemingly approve of The Merc Files by saying, “The team has captured the essence of the franchise, and applied an originality of design to the mobile platforms.” said Cos Lazouras, Producer of Tigon Studios.

This mobile stealth adventure is slated for a September 20th release on the press release, but it instead came out tonight for iOS and it sounds like it may be a light on content at the moment, but they will be adding free content over time. It is out now for $2.99 and feel free to peruse the rest of the details over at Gaming Corps announcement and check back later for news on the other Riddick game, the unannounced one, that Vin Diesel said is for the hardcore gamers.
