Ubisoft Montreal set to release side-scrolling fairytale adventure in 2014, current-gen, PS4, Xbox One and PC launches confirmed.
Ubisoft has today revealed new details about turn-based fairytale adventure Child of Light while also unveiling the game’s first official trailer. According to an announcement at Ubisoft’s Digital Days event in Paris, France, the game will launch in 2014, contrary to earlier speculation that Child of Light would be headed for a winter 2013 release.
Optimists among us will be hoping that the earlier rumours at least mean that the 2014 launch will be earlier on in the year, although nothing has been finalised yet. When Child of Light does launch it will do so on current-gen consoles including Wii U as well as the two next-gen giants and PC – the game will be available as a digital-only title across all platforms.
Far removed from the big-budget productions Ubisoft are known for, Child of Light is being worked on by a small team of veteran developers based in Ubisoft Montreal. The game uses Ubisoft’s UbiArt Framework allowing concept art to be inserted into the game unedited. From the trailer below, there seems to be a gorgeous blend of pastilles and faded watercolours that will surely be served well by the feature.
According to today’s announcement, the game aims to become “akin to stepping into an interactive painting.” Ubisoft creative director Patrick Plourde went one step further, saying: “We want Child of Light to be like a playable poem, a love letter to art and videogames.”
Child of Light takes place in Lemuria, a land where an evil queen has stolen the sun, moon and stars – which is a bit selfish. You play as a young girl named Aurora who, naturally, has to sort everything out.
