EA announces BioWare Austin GM, Matthew Bromberg, as new group general manager, Jeff Hickman named as replacement at Austin studio.
Just a few days shy of a year has passed since BioWare’s founders Dr Greg Zeschuk and Dr Ray Muzyka announced their departure from BioWare and retirement from the industry. Finally the studio responsible for the Mass Effect series, Dragon Age and Star Wars: The Old Republic has a new head: Matthew Bromberg – who, as far as I am aware, is not a doctor.
As reported by VentureBeat, Bromberg has been promoted from his role as general manager of BioWare Austin to the position of group GM for the whole BioWare label. His new role will include leading BioWare’s Canadian studios as well as Victory studio in LA and Waystone studio in Redwood City. While Austin will of course still fall under Bromberg’s remit, the GM role for the studio will be taken over by Jeff Hickman, formerly of Mythic and most recently BioWare’s executive producer of live services.
Before his new appointment, Bromberg had been working on The Old Republic during its transition to free-to-play having previously held the CEO job at eSports enablers Major League Gaming.
