After the unsurprising backlash to his comments regarding eroticism and cosplay, Hideo Kojima tries to clarify his remarks.

If you’ve not heard by now, Hideo Kojima was recently talking about character in his next Metal Gear Solid game, specifically how the character design for a female character was deliberately more erotic, and more for cosplayers. This was not a comment that sat well with a lot of people, and now Kojima has attempted to explain what he meant, and what he meant was apparently not ‘erotic’.

Polygon reports that Kojima said, via translator: “Maybe the phrase ‘erotic’ wasn’t really [the correct word for] what I was trying to say. What I’m really trying to do is create unique characters. One of those is, of course, Quiet. She’s a really unique character, I wanted to add that sexiness to her. It wasn’t really supposed to be erotic, but sexy.”

This backtracking may be too little, too late for some. Over on twitter, David Ellis of 343 Industries, said: “Don’t care if this gets me in trouble. This character design is disgusting. Our industry should be better than this.”
