Ouya pulls animated ad, but not before someone else grabs it and the bizarre nature of its advertising causes a stir.
If you’ve not heard of the Ouya ad that people are talking about, then allow me to enlighten you: Ouya put a thirty second animation ad on its youtube channel, prominently featuring vomiting, self-bludgeoning and a thinly veiled potshot at the Call of Duty and Medal of Honor franchises. It’s somewhat bizarre, and a bit uncomfortable if you don’t have a strong stomach for slightly excessive cartoon violence, but mostly it seems to come of as a bit of juvenile shock tactics (“Let’s have a guy vomiting all over the screen! GENIUS!”), but I can’t help but wonder if it was pulled because Ouya realised it might be a bad idea to portray gamers who like big franchises as darkness-dwelling, trouser-less weirdos.
Ouya are downplaying the ad after it caused something of a stir, telling Kotaku: “We are experimenting with animated content and posted this video briefly to get feedback from our community. Stay tuned for our official video!”
