Ride to Hell: Route 666 is a real-time strategy motorcycle combat racer that’s set in the Ride to Hell universe. It will be out this summer for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
It looks like motorcycle combat racing games are making a comeback. We have the Road Rash-inspired Road Redemption to look forward to, Twisted Pixel’s LocoCycle in the works, and now there’s Ride to Hell: Route 666.
The name may be awful (and I actually skipped the emails that we’ve received for the game solely because of how stupid its title is), but Route 666 actually looks pretty neat based on the newly-released announcement trailer below. The game has surprisingly colorful, cel-shaded graphics, and watching the trailer gave me a DeathSpank vibe.
More interestingly though is how Route 666 is “the world’s first real time tactics beat’em up,“ according to the press release. Set in the Ride to Hell universe, the game has you and your biker gang beating up other motorcyclists as you cruise down Route 66. You can either give commands to your gang in the back of the pack or go in the front to support everyone (presumably, you get to directly control your character if you opt for the latter). “Clever tactics will be rewarded, opening up enemy defenses” and you can change your gang’s formation on-the-fly. You can also recruit other road warriors such as “big bad bruisers to sultry medics.” Additionally, each gang member has special abilities and can be equipped with gear.
A real-time strategy motorcycle combat racer sure sounds interesting, and you can expect it to arrive this summer for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Route 666 is being developed by Black Forest Games and is part of a trilogy of Ride to Hell titles that are planned for release including Ride to Hell: Retribution and Ride to Hell: Beatdown, which is a mobile “rock’n’roll brawler.”
