Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight has successfully reached its Kickstarter funding total with all stretch goals also achieved.

Yacht Club Games’ “groundbreaking love letter to 8-bits” has smashed its $75,000 funding goal more than four times over by accumulating a staggering $311,502. Having already achieved its original goal towards the end of last month, the last three days saw the project garner nearly $130,000 alone.

In an update following the campaign’s success, Yacht Club said :”We funded. We hit every stretch goal. We hit the extra stretch goals. $311,502 pledged. 14,749 backers. Our minds are blown. Our hearts are full. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

“We want to keep you hyped; after all, we still have 2 knights to reveal; not to mention all the gender-swapped characters! And don’t worry, we’ll be sending you backers info on your rewards (such as what version do you want, etc) as it becomes available.”

In a recent Reddit AMA, Yacht Club addressed the issue of over-sexualised female characters in their previous games, suggesting the playable female protagonist will not follow this tired trope.

Yacht Club’s parting message on their Kickstarter page read: ”Most of you don’t even know us personally, but just know that you made it possible for us to realize our dreams. Thank you. Thank you!”

Shovel Knight, although heavily inspired by classic 8-bit side scrollers, will not be a parody game, but will “create its own nostalgia”, according to Yacht Club Games’ Nick Wozniak. Those interested can still vote up Shovel Knight on Steam Greenlight until April 30.

Shovel Knight is being developed for Windows PC, Mac, Wii U, Linux and Nintendo 3DS.
