A quarter of Tomb Raider’s achievements are unlocked in Multiplayer

No, you didn’t read that wrong. That’s 25%, one in every four, unlocked in the game’s multiplayer mode. I can hear the achievement junkies screaming already.

a quarter of TR achievements unlocked in multiplayer

If you are quiet for a moment you should be able to hear the screaming of achievement junkies who have heard the news that 250 of Tomb Raiders 1000 gamerscore will be tied to the titles brand new competitive multiplayer, shown on this list by X360A.

Multiplayer achievements and trophies have long been the bane of achievement hunters, who complain that the need for servers and internet access makes games more difficult to fully complete. For those playing on Xbox, there is a quarter of the achievements locked away unless you pay for Gold membership.

This is an interesting move from Crystal Dynamics, who are not developing the Multiplayer. Instead it is being handled by Eidos Montreal. At least it’s not barred behind an online pass.

    *sigh*

I’m not an achievement junkie, but I must say that I don’t much care for it when a bunch of achievements are put into the multiplayer side of a game; it makes me feel like I’m missing a significant part of the game because I’m not playing online. I simply don’t like to play online, whether with others in co-op or against others in a competitive setting. I don’t know when I’ll get the game (I was going to pre-order, but I’ve had to get some stuff for work), but now I know it’s one that I won’t be getting all the achievements for. Not the end of the world, but still…
