After a strong Christmas UK retailer GAME have confirmed that they are looking into purchasing some HMV stores.
Well isn’t this a turn up for the books? Who would have thought that GAME of all people would be the ones sniffing around HMVs stores. After their own experience in administration and having to close down hundreds of store across the UK, GAME seem to be hoping to recoup some of those losses by picking up some HMV premises.
Company CEO Martyn Gibbs confirmed that they are in talks with Deloitte (HMVs administrator) about buying somewhere around 40 stores. He spoke to the Financial Times, saying that “I would not rule out any stores that are becoming available, be that through an administration or normal property deals.”
The retailer apparently performed above expectations over Christmas, which has sparked this move.
This apparently just one of over 50 approaches that Deloitte has received expressing interest in HMV.
