Oopsie dEAsie: Origin accidentally gives away loads of games for free

News: EA’s Origin service made a bit of a boo-boo this weekend when a set of $20 voucher codes, intended to be one-use only, were discovered to not expire – and quickly found their way onto Reddit.

Oh dear. EA aren’t going to be the happiest folks right now. Having distributed some $20 voucher codes for their digital distribution service, Origin, over the weekend, the last thing they’ll have expected is for these vouchers to result in a lot of people downloading a lot of games for free.

But that’s exactly what happened when it transpired that these voucher codes hadn’t been locked to one use only – so recipients of the voucher could go and grab a $20 game for free, then another $20 game for free, then another $20 game for free, ad infinitum.

And, of course, the lack of expiry on the codes meant they could be shared with other people. Specifically, with super-huge social bookmarking site Reddit, where the news found itself rocketing to the top of the Gaming Deals section.

EA realised their mistake and have now disabled the vouchers. What happens next will be interesting to observe.
